The email offers promotion company is currently heavily promoiting itself on TV in the UK. There are some reports of non-subscribers receiving spam from this organisation (search online for those).

Here's an extract from the Wowcher T&C's:

  • Wowcher.
  • Jobsite.

  • ad:tech (not to be confused with adtech, a different company altogether).
  • The Big 5 International Building and Construction Show.
  • Gastech Conference & Exhibition.
  • RMS.
  • Landmark.
  • EDR.
  • Hobsons.
  • Lewtan.

Most companies that harvest personal information have similar policies.

Wowcher UnsubscribeOur advice is therefore is never to subscribe to bulk mail without first checking the T&C's. If this is too much trouble to go to then don't subscribe at all. Instead use their Twitter feed, their Facebook page or best of all, their RSS feed to maintain contact.

tvScience Hosting offer our clients various types of throw-away email addresses which can be used to mitigate the level of spam you receive.

As a test, I subscribed using a disposable address. So far it has taken four unsubscribe attempts, but now the mails seem to have finally stopped coming.

If you're mystified as to why you are receiving spam from Wowcher, I can now confirm that giving your address to DMGT group companies can result in this spam in your inbox.
